In 2013 Helsingborg completed a prestudy for a new tramway. A first stage was to be built between Dalhem or Väla and the city center. The length of the line was to be 8,7 km and be serviced by 11 trams. Helsingborg cooperated with Lund and Malmö in this manner. 

In 2017 Helsingborg decided to pause the tramway planning indefinitely, and instead build a busway that could in the future be converted to a tramway when the demand is high enough.
